Alejandro's philosophy:
The words social justice became words that within 4 years of attending this high school i have grown to realize what it means. To me social justice means equality and peace in the world. It is the way we serve people who need help with and issue that can not be fought with alone. An example of social justice can be when Sojo high school sat out in the hallways in protest to getting back the AP classes for the seniors, by working together and demanding change and later on receiving what we believe would happen as a result of sitting out. To me that is what social justice is about. This high school made me realize how big the problems we are facing in the world really are. Social Justice High School opened up my eyes to issues i didn't even know existed.
My freshmen year of high school i was taught about the world wide injustice that even up to this day has not been solved or been brought to justice. The Trayvon Martin issue was the first one that was brought to our attention and how wrong it was for someone to get shot for being black and walking the streets at night. My sophomore year of high school i was taught about the mining in Sierra Leon for diamonds along with the Nike sweat shop factories it created to have their products sold world wide for a small price. My junior year of high school i was taught about the very serious issue when it came to Ukraine and Syria. Finally my senior year i was informed about the Ferguson shooting between a young black adult who was shot by a white police officer because the man in power felt his life and was not sent found guilty of murder. Through out all my years of high school social justice has been apart of my daily life and the ways we as human beings can fight together to change the world and get it one step closer to peace and justice.
The reason i believe we haven't reached social justice is because the world will always have two different views of what's right and wrong. There will never be a solid thing we will agree on when a new global issue rises. With a world full of people not everyone will be agreeing with what you believe is right and i think that's what makes achieving social justice a struggle.
Achieving social justice is possible because it has been done before because the people who want to see a change in the world and wish to see peace and equality are the ones who fight for what they believe in and they do not stop until the right thing is done by the world many people achieve social justice by protesting with signs or like the famous hunger strikers once did to create this amazing school, they starved for 19 days as a form of protest to receive they school they were promised to be built, During our life time the ways of trying to achieve social justice will probably be a more strategic way and hopefully become easier trying to achieve equality and justice.
As an aspiring artist the role i will play in my life time to help achieve social justice is i want to create artwork that will help people protest for things they believe is right or wrong. They way many artists in the past have done to bring awareness or change to an issue that needs to be heard about. This is my fire changing the world for the better is what i want to keep doing as my life goes on. I believe that by following my dreams on making art my career i will be able to show how committed i am to make a change in the world for peace and equality.
