The issue of body image can be looked at through the theory of Marxist criticism. The Marxist criticism claims that the economic situation is the most important aspect of a society. Body image can be applied to the theory of Marxist Criticism because it implies that the more money someone has, the better their lifestyle will be. For example, in Rwanda, if someone is fat, it is a sign of wealth, health and them being physically strong. This encourages the idea that their is certain body type that can measure someone's wealth. According to the website researchgate.net, "it is estimated that the average woman will spend about $20 000 on cosmetics alone between the ages of 13 and 29..." This proves that money has a lot to do with achieving the "ideal" look.
