The connection between the field of psychology and the principles of social justice is that they can both help improve the way in which our society functions. In the context of my issue, body image, people suffer from disorders that can be studied in the field of psychology. For example, many people with a negative body image suffer from anorexia and bulimia nervosa. According to Cognitive Behavior Therapy as a Treatment for Body Image Dissatisfaction, "Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) is a psychotherapeutic approach that can be used to treat body image disturbances". Psychologists understand that having a negative body image is like a decease that needs to be treated.
The negative perception of body image can be considered a psychological problem. Since the objective of CBT is to change patterns of thinking or behavior it can help people have a more positive thought about their body and therefore change their behaviors when it comes to eating disorders.

Eating disorders are considered to belong to one of the major categories of mental disorders. Many people are affected by eating disorders because what the media portrays as "beautiful" becomes the ideals they follow. According to the article Body Image Battles, "the media, whether it’s in the form of a magazine or a television, only exacerbates the problem. Researchers have found that negative body image has a major impact on roughly 75 percent of the female university student population." This means that more than half of that population is unsatisfied with their bodies. Anxiety also contributes to eating disorders because that anxiety is satisfied by dieting. When people become preoccupied with their appearance, it drives them to become victims of eating disorders.
The field of psychology is important to humanity because it helps us better understand the thought process behind how we behave. It studies the mind and behaviors with the variety of subfields. Psychology can be used to positively change the world by learning the different patterns of behavior in societies and learning how to approach them in order to solve the many reoccurring problems. The major takeaway that I have acquired from my experience with AP Psychology is that we are all very different individuals but it could be very easy for us to conform with the norms put on by society. As individuals we have roles within a society, roles that have expectations to be met.
