Liberty and equality are the synonym words that I think of when I hear "Social Justice". Social justice to me means providing equal opportunities and privileges for everyone, regardless of their skin color, background, or gender. It also means that all individuals have equal freedom. Sometimes people forget that we are all human beings sharing the same atmosphere and breathing the same air. Simply because the color of our skins differ or our beliefs don't coincide, it doesn't mean that the value of our character is any greater or any less. For example, if we go back two-hundred years, Africans were enslaved by Europeans because Europeans believed that they were the superior race. They didn't want to accept Africans as their equal because the color of their skin wasn't the same. In my eyes, if we all need air to breath, if we all need food to survive, and if the structure of our bodies contain the same elements, then all humans are the same.
We, the human race, have failed to achieve social justice because we live with blindfolds over our eyes. Throughout the history of time, obstacles always seem to interfere with obtaining social justice. Discrimination is an example of a historical obstacle we've faced. Even when slavery was abolished, discrimination against people of color persisted. They were "free", just not at the same level as whites. Today, obstacles still stand in the way of social justice. Immigration, for example, is one of those obstacles. The United States is the "land of the free" and it provides "justice for all"
